We are the furthest forward we have been on the Area 51 indoor skate park project so far. After the successful feasibility study carried out last year by the consultancy agency Knight Kavanagh and Page we have had support for the project registered from a number of organisations and individuals. However the search for a suitable site still progresses and we are in negotiation over the possibility of a facility sited at Anchorage Lane. The Area 51 project plans to provide a state-of-the-art indoor skate and BMX park that will provide a much needed focal point for young people in the borough and put Doncaster on the map as a significant venue for Skate/BMX of National and International status. Watch this space! However there has been progress in provision of outdoor facilities provided by DMBC around the borough. Sites have been provided at Armthorpe, Denaby, Intake (Ledger Way), Stainforth and now Hexthorpe. DCPG has vigorously campaigned for these sites and although we have some reservations on the quality and scale of equipment, we feel that DMBC are to be congratulated on this major step forward. We are consulting on the proposed skate park in Sprotbrough, which should be built this summer, and we intend to continue to feed in suggestions to the council regarding their second phase of skate parks in other areas around Doncaster.
We need your help and support in making these facilities happen. If you are interested in getting involved in the Area 51 project or any other aspect of skate or BMX in Doncaster, please contact the group through our website at www.dcpg.org.uk or use any of the contacts shown above.
