Recently, Andy Briggs one of our members has highlighted the danger that the newly installed road narrowings have created for cyclists on Bawtry Road. He has written to the press and Mayor Winter to highlight the issue. I have recieved a letter from Mayor Winter asking our opinion of the situation to which I have replied stating that the new works are completely unsatisfactory and a danger to cyclists. I have also highlighted the problems we have as a group in getting satisfactory consultation on highway schemes and the poor way in which the council audits schemes internally to ensure cycle freindliness and safety. I await his reply.
Meanwhile, Andy has started a petition to rectify the alterations. It states:
We believe the road alterations on Bawtry Road were undertaken without any consultation and the narrowing and re lining constitutes an unnecessary danger to vulnerable road users.
